Until recently, very little was known about the life and works of the Jan Dismas Zelenka. Born and trained in Bohemia, Zelenka's rich and colorful output represents an absolute pinnacle of high Baroque art equal to that of his better known European contemporaries: Telemann, Rameau, Handel and J.S. Bach. The Capriccios, with their complexity and highly virtuosic passages for horns, were composed for entertainments following hunting parties of the courts in Vienna and Dresden. This will be the first hearing in North America of the complete cycle of these works. Only the unique timbres of period instruments can make these works fully shine.
