Ben Palmer is a guitarist, vocalist and bassist and lifelong resident of Durham. He got his start as a ‘cellist in the Duke Youth String Program and has studied music at UNCG and NCCU. Ben has made his living since 1989 as a musician and teacher and feels very fortunate to have done so. He also has a radio show, Live Jazz Now, on WHUPfm.org 104.7 and does occasional voice over work.
Two of Ben’s kids are also musicians, Max (drums) and Gen (bass) and complete the jazz trio, dotCombo. “It’s a dream come true to have your kids be able to join you in the work you love. They did it without any pressure from me, which makes it even more amazing.” “I try to keep the straight ahead swinging tunes to a minimum and do more Latin and funky grooves. I like to do clever stuff like play “Four” in 3/4 time, play “Softly” as a cumbia, “Moonlight in Vermont” half time funk.” dotCombo, jazz and more, since 2011.
