Minas creates uplifting, subtle and complex beauty that transports listeners to another place and time.


Featuring core-members Orlando Haddad and Patricia King, drawing from Brazilian traditions of samba, bossa nova, baião, axé, combined with American jazz, blues, and folk, as well as classical music, Minas mixes north and south seamlessly. Founded in 1978 when Orlando and Patricia were students at University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Minas is one of the longest established Brazilian Jazz musical groups in the US today. With over three decades experience performing and recording, the music of Minas creates an intimate and unforgettable musical tapestry that transports and inspires listeners. With 7 releases including the brand new CD “Symphony in Bossa”, Minas was indicated for 3 Grammy awards in 2010 for the CD Bossa Nova Day. Minas has performed in major national venues such as Lincoln Center in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and the Kimmel and Mann Centers in Philadelphia. Their educational programs has been seen and enjoyed by over half a million students.
